How to Prepare for a Professional Carpet Clean

A quick checklist so the clean goes smoothly and you get the best result.

A little preparation goes a long way. This short checklist covers what to do before we arrive, what to tell us, and what to do afterwards.

Before the clean

Give the carpet a good vacuum if you can. It removes loose dirt, dust and hair, so the cleaning solution can work on what's left. It doesn't need to be perfect.

Clear small items, toys and breakables off the floor, and move pets and children to another part of the house while the work is going on.

Tell us about stains and problem areas

Point out stains and problem spots, and tell us what caused them and how long ago, such as a pet accident, a spilled drink or a mark that's been there for months. It helps us choose the right treatment.

If you've already tried a stain remover or home remedy, tell us what you used. Blot a fresh spill rather than scrubbing it, and avoid mixing products, because scrubbing and harsh chemicals can set a stain or damage the carpet.

Furniture

We can move light furniture as part of the clean. Let us know ahead of time if you'd like larger items moved, and take anything fragile or valuable out of the way first.

After the clean

Keep pets, shoes and heavy traffic off the carpet until it's dry to the touch, and open windows or run fans to help it along. Our guide to drying times has more detail.
